Empathize

I conducted 6 interviews, created empathy maps and personas in order to understand and empathize with the users I am designing for. The primary user group identified through these interviews is middle-aged adults who don’t know much about pet nutrition but would like to if it is made easier for them to understand and track.

Pain Points Identified:

Time, Accessibility, Lack of Information, Finding the Process Confusing

Ideate

Following the use of ideation methods such as mind mapping and worst idea, I started working paper wireframes. This was a crucial step in creating effective and user centered designs as I could focus on specific pain points and experiment with solutions.

After finalizing my paper wireframes, I transferred them to Figma to start my first prototyping phase.

Prototype

I completed all the necessary wireframes to create my low fidelity prototype.

Low Fidelity Prototype

The low-fidelity prototype connected the main two user flows in the app and allowed me to start my initial usability tests with users.

I started working on my mockups using the design system I created for my high fidelity prototype.

High-fidelity prototype

The final high-fidelity prototype has a smoother user flow and better features to meet user needs.

Test

I conducted two rounds of usability studies with low and high fidelity prototypes.

Round 1 Findings:‍

Users need a hamburger menu, improvements in navigation and better guidance in certain pages of the application.

Round 2 Findings:

Users are frustrated with some repetitive steps, they want a more transparent calculation process and want to see the nutrition progress over time.

Accessibility

• ‘Accessibility Settings’ page for users to have easy and quick access to features such as voice-over, text customization and more.

• Text colors in the app passes the WCAG AA guidelines.

• There are logical heading structure and large buttons and controls throughout the app.

Conclusion

The app makes nutrition tracking easy and quick for pet owners while educating them to make sure their pets’ diet meet their nutritional needs.
